about

I kept waking up all night from 1:30 am to about 4:00 am. Each time I woke up there was a new line to this song in my head. I wrote down the line each time and when I woke up the next day, the song was there in front of me. I just needed to figure out the melody which should have been difficult for me. But, for some reason the melody seemed to be natural with the lyrics.

lyrics

<INTRO>
This is for you Lord, the other day, I went to a place that was using your name

<VERSE 1>
I couldn't recognize the church I was in, The cross was hanging but It didn't fit in
They forgot about the blood, forgot about the son, forgot about the cross and the reason he died,
Forgot about it all except, give us your tithe

<CHORUS>
If Jesus came today, I could hear the hypocrites say, his hairs too long, he smells too strong, just get him out of the way
If Jesus came today, could we recognize his face, would we let him in or silence him, would we even know his name
If Jesus came today, would we recognize his love, could we feel his grace overtake this place, would we understand his
blood

<VERSE 2>
I couldn't recognize the songs they sung, about feeling good and having fun
forgot about the blood, forgot about the son, forgot about the cross and the reason he died,
Forgot about it all except, give us your tithe
